Colombo renews to ISO 11612:2015 certificate

In November 2017 Colombo was retested and renewed EN ISO 11612 (Protective clothing – Clothing to protect against heat and flame) certificate.
ISO 11612:2015 specifies performance requirements for garments made from flexible materials, which are designed to protect the wearer’s body.

The performance requirements set out in ISO 11612:2015 are applicable to garments which could be worn for a wide range of end uses, where there is a need for clothing with limited flame spread properties and where the user can be exposed to radiant or convective or contact heat or to molten metal splashes.

The testing was done at independent international laboratory AITEX (Spain).

Colombo is protective fabric made of 100% long-staple cotton with flame retardant finishing. The fabric includes antistatic yarn. Examples of use of flame retardant FR fabric Colombo include but not limited to flame resistant clothing for welders, electricians and other professionals who should have heat, flame and antistatic protection. FR jackets, FR pants, flame retardant coveralls and other FR or FR clothing made from fire resistant fabric Colombo will give your employees maximum chance to be safe and protected when working at risk of fire, Electric Arc or impact of Heat and Flame.

Colombo has been successfully tested to the following tests:

  1. Limited Flame Spread (ISO 15025:2002, Method A)
    Requisites to be met according to ISO 15025 
    a) No specimen shall give flaming to top or either side edge
    b) No hole formation in any layer of 5 mm.
    c) No specimen shall give flaming or molten debris
    d) Afterflame time is ≤ 2 s
    e) Afterglow time is ≤ 2 s

Colombo results for samples and after 5 washing cycles at 60ºC, according to the standard ISO 6330:2012, method 6N, F drying (tumble dry)

  • Flaming to top or either side edge: No– PASS
  • Hole formation: No– PASS
  • Loose waste: No– PASS
  • After flame time (s): No– PASS
  • Afterglow time (s): No– PASS

Performance level according EN ISO 11612:2015 – A1

  1. Determination of Dimensional change in Domestic washing and drying (ISO 5077:2008) 
    In accordance with the Standard EN ISO 11612:2015 point (6.4), the dimensional change of knitted fabrics shall not exceed ± 5%, both in width (Crooswise) and in length (Lengthwise).
  • Warp: +2,0%– PASS
  • Weft: 0,0% – PASS


  1. Tear Resistance (ISO 13937-2:2000)
    The relative expanded uncertainty of Tear resistance is ±3.9% assay value of the measured, for a probability of coverage of 95%. Is determined the Lengthwise and Crosswise directions, respectively.


The external material must resist a determination of tear resistance in both directions ≥ 10 N.

  • Lengthwise tear strength: – 44N- PASS
  • Crosswise tear strength: 32N – PASS


  1. Fabric Tensile Strength and Rupture Elongation

The relative expanded uncertainty of Tensile strength resistance is ±2% assay value of the measured, for a probability of coverage of 95%.

The material must resist a breaking load in both directions ≥ 300 N.

  • Warp: 1600N – PASS
  • Weft: 840N – PASS

  1. Contact Heat (ISO 12127-1:2007)
    ISO 12127-1:2007 specifies a test method for the determination of contact heat transmission. It is applicable to protective clothing (including hand protectors) and its constituent materials intended to protect against high contact temperatures. ISO 12127-1:2007 is restricted to contact temperatures between 100 °C and 500 °C.
